Revolutionizing Conversations: ChatGPT Unveils Advanced Voice Feature
In a significant leap forward, OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ChatGPT, has introduced an advanced voice feature for premium users. This innovative tool enables more fluid and natural conversations, allowing users to engage with the AI in a more human-like way.
The rollout, announced in May, has been highly anticipated, especially after the controversy surrounding the initial voice feature, which resembled Scarlett Johansson’s voice in the movie “Her.” Following legal concerns, OpenAI paused the feature and has since refined it.
The advanced voice mode responds quickly and intuitively, stopping to listen when interrupted. Users can choose from nine distinct voices and customize their experience through the app’s settings. OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman, expressed excitement about the launch, saying, “Hope you think it was worth the wait.”
This development comes as the AI chatbot market becomes increasingly competitive. Google has recently released its Gemini Live voice feature, while Meta is set to introduce celebrity voices on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
ChatGPT, launched in late 2022, has already gained significant traction, with over 200 million weekly active users. The advanced voice feature is exclusively available to subscribers of OpenAI’s Plus, Team, or Enterprise plans, starting at $20 per month.
To access the feature, users need to ensure they have the latest app version, receive a notification, and follow a few simple steps. Once activated, they can engage in conversations, ask for assistance, or even request a bedtime story.
While the advanced voice mode offers improved accents and faster conversations, it’s not without limitations. Users will encounter a time limit, although OpenAI has not disclosed the exact details.
As the AI landscape continues to evolve, ChatGPT’s advanced voice feature marks a significant milestone, blurring the lines between human and machine interactions.
