Federal authorities are scrutinizing a potential price-fixing scheme involving several major companies, including a prominent German software firm, that may have resulted in inflated costs for government agencies over the past decade.
According to recent reports, the US Department of Justice has been investigating allegations that the software company, a leading provider of enterprise solutions, colluded with an IT services provider to manipulate prices on sales to the US military and other government entities. The probe, which began at least two years ago, is examining whether the companies engaged in anti-competitive practices that led to overcharging.
The investigation has already led to a raid on the offices of the IT services provider in the Washington area, with authorities seizing documents and records related to the case. While the companies involved have declined to comment, a representative from the IT services provider acknowledged that the investigation centers on a business partner from the past.
Notably, the German software firm has faced legal issues in the past, including a recent settlement with the Justice Department in which it agreed to pay over $220 million to resolve allegations of bribery schemes in multiple countries.
