In the realm of artificial intelligence, there exists a hidden gem that has been flying under the radar – Palantir Technologies’ applications in the defense sector. While many have been enamored with the company’s role in the AI revolution, its presence in the public sector has been vastly underappreciated. A recent win in the defense space has caught my attention, and I believe it’s a crucial catalyst for the company’s long-term growth narrative.
The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), a security detail within the Department of Defense (DOD), has been leading the charge in Project Maven, a pioneering effort in AI, machine learning, and cloud computing infrastructure. After Alphabet’s Google bowed out of the project in 2019, Palantir stepped in and took the reins. The company’s software has since become an integral part of the Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) protocol, aimed at seamlessly integrating and connecting information across the entire DOD enterprise.
Palantir’s recent wins in the defense space are nothing short of impressive. The U.S. Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office awarded the company a five-year deal worth up to $480 million, while the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) handed over a five-year contract worth up to $100 million. These deals not only bring in significant revenue but also serve as a testament to Palantir’s growing influence in the defense sector.
The subtle yet crucial aspect of these deals is that they signal a shift towards AI becoming a cornerstone of defense capabilities. Palantir’s consistent wins in Project Maven have earned the company a nod of approval from the U.S. military, paving the way for potential future contracts. As the company’s U.S. government revenue continues to accelerate, it’s clear that Palantir’s public sector operation is poised for significant growth.
Despite this, I believe Palantir’s influence in the defense sector remains widely overlooked and underpriced. The company’s latest deal and its partnership with Microsoft are just two catalysts that will drive further penetration in the public sector. As AI continues to play a more critical role in defense capabilities, Palantir is well-positioned to reap the benefits.
