Expedited Airport Security Program Fees Set to Increase
Travelers who value speedy security checks at airports will soon have to pay a premium. The cost of joining Global Entry, a popular program that expedites border crossings for low-risk travelers, is rising for the first time. As of October 1, new members and those renewing their membership will need to pay $120, up from the current $100 fee.
However, there’s still time to take advantage of the current rate. If you apply or renew your membership before October 1, you’ll be able to lock in the lower price. Note that renewals can only be done a year in advance, so if your current membership extends beyond October 2025, you’ll be subject to the higher fee.
While adults may want to renew their membership before the price hike takes effect, families with children under 18 may want to wait. As of October 1, minors will no longer need to pay the membership fee, making it a more cost-effective option for families.
Global Entry is a widely used program that allows travelers to bypass long customs lines and enjoy faster security checks at select airports. Memberships are valid for five years and include TSA PreCheck, which provides expedited security screening for domestic flights. To be eligible, applicants must pass a background check and complete an in-person interview, which includes submitting biometric data and answering questions about their travel history.
Fees for other Trusted Traveler Programs, including NEXUS and SENTRI, which offer expedited entry from Canada and Mexico, respectively, will also increase to $120 as of October 1. These programs are open to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and citizens of select countries, who must meet certain eligibility requirements, including passing a background check and holding a valid passport.
