Chinese Electric Vehicle Makers Set New Records in September Deliveries
In a remarkable display of growth, two prominent Chinese new energy vehicle brands, Li Auto and Zeekr, have announced record-breaking delivery numbers for September. This surge in sales is a testament to the increasing popularity of eco-friendly vehicles in the Chinese market.
Li Auto, known for its innovative fuel tank-equipped cars, reported an impressive 53,709 deliveries in September, exceeding its previous high by over 5%. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the company, which has been gaining traction in the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, Geely-owned electric car company Zeekr also achieved a record-breaking delivery of 21,333 vehicles in September. This feat demonstrates the brand’s growing appeal among environmentally conscious consumers.
Another notable player in the Chinese electric vehicle market, Xpeng, reported a record 21,352 deliveries in September, driven in part by the success of its mass-market Mona brand’s M03 coupe, launched in late August. This affordable model, priced lower than comparable Tesla vehicles, has been well-received by customers.
The Tesla Model Y SUV, priced at 249,900 yuan ($35,630), and the Model 3, starting at 231,900 yuan, have faced stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers, which have been launching new models at competitive prices. Despite this, Tesla has maintained its prices since earlier this year.
The September records put Li Auto and Xpeng on track to surpass their previously announced delivery forecasts, while Zeekr is close to reaching its annual goal. The news sent U.S.-listed shares of Xpeng soaring 3.12% in after-hours trading.
As the Chinese market continues to shift towards eco-friendly vehicles, these record-breaking deliveries signal a promising future for new energy vehicle manufacturers.
