**Tragedy Meets Triumph: “Rust” Film to Premiere at Camerimage Festival**
Three years after the devastating on-set shooting that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the western film “Rust” is set to make its world debut at the prestigious Camerimage Festival in Poland. The film’s journey has been marred by legal battles, with star Alec Baldwin facing involuntary manslaughter charges twice, only to have them dropped due to new evidence and procedural errors.
The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence. Despite her defense team’s efforts to dismiss the charge, the judge denied the request earlier this week.
The Camerimage festival, celebrating its 30th anniversary, is a tribute to the art of cinematography. Following the screening of “Rust,” a panel discussion will delve into the fatal shooting, Hutchins’ vision, on-set safety, and the production’s continuation after her tragic death. Director Joel Souza, who was injured in the shooting, will participate in the panel.
Festival Director Marek Zydowicz expressed the significance of honoring Hutchins’ memory, stating, “We knew that our event was important to [Hutchins], and that she felt at home among cinematographers from all over the world… Now, once again, together with cinematographers and film enthusiasts, we will have this special opportunity to remember her.”
The 2024 Camerimage festival will take place from November 16-23, offering a poignant tribute to Hutchins’ legacy and a chance for the film community to come together in remembrance.
