This Saturday, former President Donald Trump is set to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of a tumultuous rally in July that ended in tragedy when a gunman opened fire, killing one attendee. Trump initially announced his plans to revisit Butler just 13 days after the incident, and with only four weeks until the November 5 election, his campaign is working to generate excitement around the event.
In a vastly different political landscape, Trump returns to Butler, where he’ll have one of his final opportunities to make his case to the American people in a crucial swing state. “BUTLER ON SATURDAY — HISTORIC!” Trump exclaimed on social media earlier this week.
This time around, Trump’s rally will feature a new entourage, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who recently endorsed Trump after a previous public feud. Ohio Senator JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, will deliver an opening speech. Family members of Corey Comperatore, the victim of the July shooting, are also expected to attend.
The Secret Service has vowed to increase security measures for the event, following intense scrutiny after the Butler shooting and another assassination attempt in September. “We take the responsibility to ensure his safety and security very seriously,” a Secret Service spokesman said.
