In the high-stakes world of casino gaming, protecting intellectual property is crucial for success. According to Hector Fernandez, CEO of Aristocrat Gaming, defending their unique creations is vital to their future growth. The company recently took competitor Light & Wonder to court, alleging copyright infringement over their “Dragon Train” game, which bears a striking resemblance to Aristocrat’s popular Dragon Link series. A Nevada court ruled in Aristocrat’s favor, issuing a preliminary injunction against Light & Wonder.
Despite the setback, Light & Wonder remains committed to modifying and relaunching Dragon Train in the future. Meanwhile, Aristocrat is focused on expanding its digital presence, recognizing the vast potential of online casino gaming, or iGaming, in the US. With only six states currently licensing iGaming, the industry is poised for rapid growth, with gross gaming revenue increasing at a rate comparable to sports betting.
Fernandez emphasized the importance of creating engaging game content that resonates with players and translates seamlessly to the casino floor. As the market leader in iGaming, FanDuel has seen significant success with online versions of popular brick-and-mortar games. With shares of Aristocrat and Light & Wonder outperforming those of casino operators this year, the battle for dominance in the digital gaming sphere is heating up.
