Meta’s Threads App Sees Rapid Growth, Reaches 275 Million Monthly Users
In a significant development, Meta’s social media app, Threads, has reached a milestone of 275 million monthly users, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This represents a staggering 175% growth from last year, when the app had 100 million users.
Threads’ Rise to Prominence
Launched in July 2023, Threads was designed to rival Elon Musk’s X app, which was acquired for $44 billion in October 2022. While X still leads in terms of users, with approximately 318 million monthly users, Threads is rapidly closing the gap.
Daily User Growth
Threads is currently signing up over 1 million new users every day, a testament to its growing popularity. This rapid growth could provide Meta with new opportunities to deliver ads to users, a crucial revenue stream for the company.
Monetization Plans
While CFO Susan Li stated that Threads is not expected to be a significant driver of revenue in 2025, analysts at Bernstein believe that ads will eventually scale on the platform. With ads accounting for 98.3% of Meta’s total revenue in the third quarter, this could be a significant development for the company.
Meta’s Broader Performance
Across Meta’s family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and other consumer-facing platforms, daily active users grew 5% year-over-year to reach 3.29 billion. Although this figure fell short of analysts’ expectations, it still represents a significant user base.
Future Plans
As Threads continues to grow, Meta is focused on introducing new features that users will find valuable. CFO Susan Li emphasized the company’s commitment to building out the app’s functionality and responding to user feedback.
What’s Next?
With Threads’ rapid growth and Meta’s broader performance, the company is poised for continued success. As the app continues to evolve and introduce new features, it will be interesting to see how it impacts Meta’s revenue and user engagement.
