Tiny Living Dreams Come True
For Grace and Jacob Kocher, 26, the idea of settling down after three years of living in an RV was daunting. But they knew they wanted to keep things small. After traveling to 25 states, they finally found the perfect spot in Florida. That’s when Grace stumbled upon an unusual listing on Facebook Marketplace – an old cabin from Disney’s Fort Wilderness resort, priced at $49,900.
A Family Connection
The cabin held a special significance for Grace, whose family had spent many vacations at Fort Wilderness. Jacob, too, had fond memories of staying in similar cabins as a child. When they saw the listing, they knew they had to take a chance.
A Smart Investment
The couple was determined to keep costs under $125,000, including financing options. They didn’t want to be burdened with too much debt. Jacob saw the cabin as a smart investment, and they were drawn to its unique charm.
Taking a Leap of Faith
Although they couldn’t see the cabin in person before buying, Grace felt confident about the decision based on photos. She was relieved to find that the cabin had minimal damage, unlike others they had seen.
A New Chapter
In April, they signed the bill of sale and paid $53,375, including tax, for the cabin. It was delivered to them in June, and they were overwhelmed with excitement and uncertainty.
Renovation Mode
Since taking possession of the cabin, the couple has been busy with renovations, doing most of the work themselves. They hired professionals for major tasks like plumbing and electrical, but learned to figure out many things on their own.
Making it Their Own
The cabin came with furniture and appliances, which they sold to help with renovation costs. They wanted to make the space their own, so they painted, replaced hardware, and added new furniture throughout.
A Dream Realized
In August, they spent their first night in the cabin, despite renovations not being complete. But it already felt like home. The couple hopes to keep the cabin for years to come, maybe even turning it into a rental property.
A New Adventure
For now, they’re enjoying their tiny living dream come true. As they look to the future, they know that life can be unpredictable, but they’re excited to see what adventures await them.
