GE Vernova Boosts US Manufacturing with Strategic Acquisition

Strengthening Domestic Supply Chains: GE Vernova Acquires Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Combustion Parts Business

In a strategic move to boost US manufacturing and fortify its domestic supply chain, GE Vernova, a division of General Electric, has agreed to acquire the heavy-duty gas turbine combustion parts business of Woodward, located in Greenville, South Carolina.

Enhancing Operations in Greenville

GE Vernova will acquire all assets associated with Woodward’s Greenville site, which primarily supplies parts and services to GE Vernova’s gas turbine manufacturing operations. This acquisition marks a significant milestone for GE Vernova, which has had a presence in the Greenville region for over five decades, with operations spanning gas turbine manufacturing and testing, as well as global engineering support.

Meeting Growing Demand for Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines

According to Eric Gray, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business, “We’re excited to acquire and integrate this critical capability for our domestic supply chain as we continue to see increasing demand for our heavy-duty gas turbines and upgrades globally.” This acquisition will enable GE Vernova to address growing demand from customers and meet the electrification needs of the country, while demonstrating its commitment to the industry and the community.

Seamless Transition for Greenville Employees

Although the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition is expected to be finalized in early 2025. GE Vernova is committed to collaborating with Woodward to ensure a smooth transition for the Greenville employees. Woodward Chairman and CEO Chip Blankenship expressed his gratitude to the Greenville team, stating that they will have opportunities to continue their great work as GE Vernova takes on ownership of the operations.

Commitment to Sustainability

This acquisition comes on the heels of GE Vernova and ASHOMCo completing FEED studies in November 2024 to reduce carbon emissions at three Saudi cogeneration plants. This move demonstrates GE Vernova’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.

About the Acquisition

The acquisition of Woodward’s gas turbine parts business is a strategic effort by GE Vernova to bolster its domestic supply chain and meet growing demand for heavy-duty gas turbines. With this acquisition, GE Vernova reinforces its commitment to the industry, the community, and sustainability.
