Stellantis CEO Search Underway Amidst Leadership Shakeup
Abrupt Resignation Sparks Change
The automotive industry was left reeling on Sunday with the sudden resignation of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, citing irreconcilable differences with the company’s board and key shareholders. As the search for his replacement begins, two internal candidates have emerged as frontrunners for the top spot.
Internal Contenders Emerge
Antonio Filosa, current head of North American operations, and Maxime Picat, chief procurement officer, are being considered for the CEO position. Both executives bring a wealth of experience to the table, having played key roles in shaping the company’s strategy and operations.
Filosa’s Rise to Prominence
Filosa, an Italian national, joined Fiat in 1999 and quickly rose through the ranks. His impressive resume includes stints as Fiat Chrysler’s chief in Latin America and Stellantis’ chief operating officer for South America. In 2023, he was appointed global head of the Jeep brand, a role he still holds.
Picat’s Impressive Credentials
Picat, a French civil engineer, joined Peugeot maker PSA in 1998 and has since held various leadership positions. Notably, he served as chief operating officer for the enlarged Europe region when Stellantis was formed in 2021. His experience in procurement and supplier quality will undoubtedly be valuable assets in the CEO role.
Interim Leadership Takes the Helm
As the search for a new CEO continues, an interim executive committee has been established to guide the company. Led by Chairman John Elkann, the committee comprises nine executives, including Filosa, Picat, and new finance chief Doug Ostermann. An additional six executives will report directly to Elkann, providing support to the committee.
Expertise and Experience at the Forefront
While the board considers both internal and external candidates, one thing is clear: the next CEO of Stellantis will need to possess a deep understanding of the automotive industry and the ability to navigate complex global operations. With Filosa and Picat in the running, the company is well-positioned to find a leader who can drive growth and success in the years to come.
