Allegations of Misconduct Haunt Trump’s Pentagon Nominee
A new report has surfaced, detailing disturbing allegations against Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Pentagon. The report, published by The New Yorker, cites a previously undisclosed whistleblower complaint from 2015, which paints a troubling picture of Hegseth’s behavior while he was president of Concerned Veterans for America.
Repeated Incidents of Drunkenness and Mismanagement
According to the whistleblower report, Hegseth was frequently drunk while attending organization events, often to the point of needing to be carried out. One incident allegedly occurred at a Louisiana strip club, where Hegseth had to be restrained from joining the dancers on stage.
Sexual Impropriety and Abuse of Power
The report also alleges that Hegseth, who was married at the time, and other members of his management team engaged in sexual pursuits of female staffers, dividing them into “party girls” and “not party girls.” This behavior, coupled with his mismanagement and abuse of alcohol on the job, ultimately led to his forced resignation from CVA in 2016.
Financial Mismanagement at Vets for Freedom
Hegseth’s leadership of another veterans’ nonprofit, Vets for Freedom, was marked by financial mismanagement, resulting in enormous debt and an inability to pay creditors. Donors eventually hatched a plan to take control away from Hegseth, leading to a downgraded job title and reduced compensation.
Previous Controversies Resurface
This new report comes on the heels of previous controversies surrounding Hegseth, including an alleged sexual assault in 2017, which was investigated by police but did not result in criminal charges. Hegseth has maintained his innocence and settled the case out of court.
A Cloud of Doubt Over Hegseth’s Nomination
These allegations have cast a cloud of doubt over Hegseth’s nomination to lead the Pentagon. Trump’s transition team has yet to comment on the matter, leaving many to wonder if Hegseth is fit to hold such a critical position.
