Tako’s CEO, Alex Rosenberg, believes that in-person collaboration is essential for innovation and creativity. “When you’re trying to invent something new, it’s really hard to do that over Zoom,” Rosenberg said. His company is currently hunting for a larger office space in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood, a hub for generative AI startups.

According to data from Cushman & Wakefield, the vacancy rate in the city’s office market remains high, but AI startups are driving significant leasing activity. OpenAI and Sierra AI accounted for two of the largest leases in the third quarter of 2023.

For parents, people with disabilities, and those with long commutes, working in an office five days a week can be difficult.
