RTX Corp to Boost Indian Workforce by 1,000, Focusing on Engineers and Data Scientists
The Indian arm of RTX Corp, a leading US aerospace and defense company, is set to expand its workforce by 1,000 employees by 2027, bringing the total headcount to 8,000. This move is part of the company’s strategy to tap into India’s vast pool of engineering and data science talent.
India: A Talent Hub for RTX
Unlike popular perception, India is not just a low-cost destination for RTX. Instead, it serves as a talent hub, with around 150 global roles being managed from the country. “Our biggest export is our talent,” emphasized Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Engineering at Collins Aerospace.
Growing Demand for Global Capability Centres
RTX is not alone in its Indian expansion plans. Other global aerospace and defense firms, such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce Holdings, and Lockheed Martin, also operate technology and engineering centers in India. These global capability centers (GCCs) play a crucial role in supporting daily operations, research, and development.
Pratt & Whitney to Hire 300 Engineers
Over the next 12-18 months, Pratt & Whitney, a leading aircraft engine maker, plans to hire around 300 engineers in India. This move is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its global operations. Additionally, Collins Aerospace, another RTX unit, will add 700 employees over the next three years.
Consolidation and Expansion Plans
Collins Aerospace, which manufactures a range of products, including evacuation slides and avionic sensors, primarily for export, is set to operate from a larger factory in Bengaluru by 2026. The company will consolidate its three existing manufacturing sites into a single facility.
India’s GCC Market to Reach $105 Billion by 2030
According to a report by Nasscom and Zinnov, the market size of India’s GCCs is expected to grow to $99 billion-$105 billion by fiscal 2030, up from $64.6 billion in fiscal 2024.
Digital Transformation and Innovation
RTX’s Indian center is focused on enabling global teams through digital transformation, data analytics, and the development of small and large language models. This will facilitate easier maintenance and inspections, ultimately driving innovation and growth.
Reducing Dependence on Outsourcing
In line with the global trend, RTX’s Bengaluru-based center aims to reduce its reliance on outsourcing firms and take on more technology work in-house. This move will help retain talent and protect intellectual property rights. The goal is to achieve at least 55% of technology work in-house over the next three years, up from around a third currently.
