Market Momentum Carries into 2025
As the calendar flips to a new year, the major indexes – Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow industrial – are riding high, having reached record highs in December. This sets the stage for a strong start to 2025.
Holiday Schedule Ahead
Before the year-end celebrations begin, investors should note the upcoming market holidays. On Tuesday, December 31, the bond markets will close early at 2 p.m., while the stock market will operate on a regular schedule. Both the stock and bond markets will be closed on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, and will resume normal hours on Thursday and Friday.
National Day of Mourning
In observance of the National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and Cboe Global Markets will close for the entire session on January 9.
Stock Market Holidays in 2025
Mark your calendars for the following stock market holidays in 2025 when the NYSE, Nasdaq, and bond markets will be fully closed:
- Partial Market Closures
Additionally, the stock market will close early at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, December 24 for Christmas Eve, while the bond markets will close early at 2 p.m. ET.
Regular Market Hours
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq operate from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday, and are closed on weekends.
