Unprecedented Access: Melania Trump Documentary Coming to Prime Video
In a surprise move, Prime Video has announced the exclusive licensing of a documentary film about Melania Trump, the former First Lady of the United States. The movie, which began filming in December 2024, promises to give viewers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Trump’s life and experiences.
A Unique Story
The documentary, executive produced by Fernando Sulichin of New Element Media and directed by Brett Ratner, is set to release in the second half of 2025. Prime Video has promised to share more details about the project as filming progresses and release plans are finalized.
A Controversial Director
Ratner, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in 2017, has not made a movie since then. His involvement in the project has raised eyebrows, but Prime Video has remained tight-lipped about the controversy.
Bezos’ Involvement
The documentary deal comes on the heels of a Wall Street Journal report that Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chairman of Amazon, plans to donate $1 million to the inaugural fund of President-elect Donald Trump. Bezos, who has been criticized by Trump in the past, met with the president-elect at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida after his election win.
A Cartoon Controversy
The news of the documentary deal comes just days after Ann Telnaes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist at The Washington Post, resigned from the newspaper over a blocked satirical cartoon depicting Bezos and other billionaires kneeling before Trump. The cartoon, which was killed by the Post’s editorial board, sparked controversy and raised questions about Bezos’ influence over the newspaper.
A Bigger Picture
The Melania Trump documentary is just the latest example of Prime Video’s efforts to expand its offerings and attract new viewers. With its exclusive licensing deal, the streaming service is poised to give viewers a unique look at the life of one of the most fascinating figures in American politics.
