Ram Revamps Heavy-Duty Trucks to Reverse Sales Slump
In a bid to turn around three years of declining sales, Stellantis has given its Ram heavy-duty trucks a major overhaul. The revamped Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and chassis cab trucks boast updated interior and exterior designs, as well as a powerful new 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine.
A Game-Changer for Heavy-Duty Truck Customers
This new engine packs a punch, producing 430 horsepower and a best-in-class 1,075 foot-pounds of torque. For customers who rely on these trucks for hauling, towing, and other demanding jobs, this added power will be a welcome upgrade. The alternative engine option is a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, which delivers 405 horsepower and 429 foot-pounds of torque.
A Fresh Start for Ram
The rollout of these heavy-duty trucks follows the delayed release of the redesigned Ram 1500 pickup last year. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis acknowledges that the launch of the 1500 has been slow, but is optimistic about the progress being made. “It’s getting better every day,” he says.
Pickup Trucks: The Lifeblood of American Automakers
For American brands like Ram, pickup trucks are crucial products. Unfortunately, Ram reported a 19% year-over-year decline in sales in 2024, including a 16% drop in sales for its Ram pickup trucks. This puts them behind competitors like Ford and GM’s Chevrolet, which reported steady sales for their pickups in 2024.
A New Era for Ram
The revamped heavy-duty trucks are expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships during the first quarter of this year, with a starting price of $47,560 – roughly $2,300 more than current models. With seven trim levels to choose from, including Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn, and Limited, Ram is hoping to win back customers and regain its footing in the market.
