Tesla Recalls 239,000 Electric Vehicles Due to Rearview Camera Failure

Safety Concerns Prompt Voluntary Recall

Tesla has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 239,000 electric vehicles in the United States to address an issue with their rearview cameras. The problem can cause the cameras to fail, reducing the driver’s rear view and increasing the risk of accidents.

Affected Models and Solution

The recall affects Tesla’s 2024-2025 Model 3 and Model S sedans, as well as its 2023-2025 Model X and Model Y SUVs. Fortunately, Tesla has already released an over-the-air software update that can fix some of the camera issues, free of charge.

Recall History

This is not Tesla’s first recall. In 2024, the company issued 16 recalls in the U.S. that applied to 5.14 million of its electric vehicles. The recall remedies included a mix of over-the-air software updates and parts replacements. Notably, over 40% of last year’s recalls pertained to issues with the Cybertruck, Tesla’s newest vehicle.

No Reported Accidents

Tesla has received 887 warranty claims and dozens of field reports related to the rearview camera failures, but the company is not aware of any injurious, fatal, or other collisions resulting from the issue. Customers whose vehicles experience circuit board failure or stress can have their vehicles’ computers replaced by Tesla, free of charge.

Proactive Approach to Safety

Tesla’s voluntary recall demonstrates the company’s commitment to prioritizing safety and addressing potential issues promptly. By taking proactive measures, Tesla aims to ensure the well-being of its customers and maintain trust in its electric vehicles.
