Winter Weather Forces Inauguration Indoors
As the nation prepares for the presidential inauguration, a severe Arctic blast is expected to hit Washington, D.C. on Monday, prompting President-elect Donald Trump to take unprecedented measures to ensure public safety.
Extreme Cold Prompts Venue Change
With temperatures forecasted to plummet to as low as 6°F (-14°C) and wind chills reaching a bone-chilling -10°F (-23°C), Trump has ordered the inauguration address, prayers, and other speeches to be delivered indoors at the United States Capitol Rotunda. This marks the first time since 1985, when President Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term, that the inauguration ceremony has been held indoors due to extreme weather conditions.
Capital One Arena to Host Live Viewing and Presidential Parade
To accommodate the public, Trump has announced that the Capital One Arena will be opened for a live viewing of his inauguration. The arena will also host a scheduled presidential parade. The president-elect plans to join the crowd at the Capital One Arena after his swearing-in ceremony.
MAGA Rally and Other Events to Proceed as Planned
Despite the venue change, Trump has confirmed that the rest of his inauguration ceremonies, including a MAGA rally at the Capital One Arena on Sunday afternoon, will proceed as scheduled. “Everyone will be safe, everyone will be happy, and we will, together, make America great again!” Trump wrote in a statement.
Public Safety Takes Priority
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has honored Trump’s request to move the ceremonies indoors, prioritizing public safety above all else. As the nation prepares for this historic event, one thing is clear: the show must go on, even in the face of extreme weather conditions.
