In a surprise move, Bumble announced that founder Whitney Wolfe Herd will be returning as CEO in March, replacing Lidiane Jones, who has led the company for about a year. This change comes as the dating app operator struggles to regain its footing, with its shares plummeting nearly 50% during Jones’ tenure.

The dating app industry as a whole has been facing significant headwinds, including sticky inflation and a lack of innovative features. This has led to a decline in growth, with even larger rivals like Tinder-owner Match Group feeling the pinch. As a result, there have been several executive shake-ups in the industry.

Bumble has not been immune to these challenges. Last month, the company announced the departures of key executives, including finance chief Anu Subramanian and marketing head Selby Drummond. These changes were seen as a sign of the company’s struggles to adapt to the new landscape.

Additionally, Bumble launched a refreshed app and new features last year, although these efforts have yet to gain significant traction, particularly among Gen Z users.
