Energy Security Boost: Wood Group Wins Major Maintenance Contract in Australia
Optimizing Operations in the Gippsland Basin
Leading energy industry consulting and engineering services provider, John Wood Group (Wood), has secured a significant contract to deliver long-term maintenance solutions for Esso Australia’s onshore and offshore assets in the Gippsland Basin, Victoria, Australia. This strategic partnership will provide essential maintenance and shutdown support to enhance operational performance at the Longford and Long Island Point facilities, as well as the Bass Strait-based offshore assets of the Gippsland Basin joint venture (JV).
A Critical Source of Natural Gas
The Bass Strait, renowned as the largest single source of natural gas for the domestic market in Australia, supplies approximately 40% of the country’s east coast gas demand. This contract award underscores Wood’s commitment to supporting the nation’s energy security.
Creating Jobs and Driving Growth
Wood’s long-term contract, set to commence this month, was secured through a competitive tender process. The agreement is expected to generate around 250 jobs in Victoria by early 2025, contributing to the region’s economic growth.
A Testament to Wood’s Expertise
Wood CEO Ken Gilmartin expressed pride in being trusted by Esso Australia as their maintenance partner in the Gippsland Basin, operating assets and facilities critical to the country’s energy security. “Our market-leading integrated operations and maintenance solutions, combined with our growing portfolio in Australia, demonstrate our ability to deliver high-quality services to an expanding client base,” Gilmartin emphasized.
Building on Recent Successes
This latest contract win follows a recent five-year contract renewal to provide brownfield engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions for the same Gippsland Basin assets. Additionally, Wood signed three engineering and project delivery agreements with bp last month, including a new master services agreement (MSA) for EPCm services.
A Strong Partnership for Energy Security
Wood’s contract award recognizes the company’s dedication to safe operations, the skills and expertise of its people, and its enduring relationship with Esso Australia. This partnership is poised to make a significant impact on Australia’s energy landscape.
