Burma Burma, a popular Burmese restaurant chain in India, has just received a significant financial boost of Rs254.6m ($2.94m) in equity funding. This investment, led by Negen Capital and supported by NV Alpha Fund Management and several high-net-worth individuals, is set to propel the brand’s expansion strategy forward.

Nationwide Expansion on the Horizon

With this funding, Burma Burma aims to increase its presence across India, targeting a total of 24 outlets by the financial year 2026. Currently, the chain operates 12 outlets in major Indian cities, with a proven track record of success. In December 2024, the company reported revenues of Rs105m ($1.21m), demonstrating its potential for growth.

Impressive Financial Performance

Burma Burma’s financial performance is impressive, with an outlet-level operating profit margin of over 28% and an EBITDA margin of 19%. These figures demonstrate the company’s ability to maintain profitability while expanding its operations.

Ambitious Growth Plans

Co-founder Chirag Chhajer outlined the company’s ambitious plans, stating, “Our focus is to reach Rs3bn in revenue within two financial years while achieving an 18% + EBITDA margin. This funding will be a catalyst in bringing our vision to life as we aim to be IPO-ready by 2027.” With a growth rate of 50% anticipated for the following year, Burma Burma is poised for significant expansion.

Facilitating Growth

The latest funding round was facilitated by investment bankers Sarthak Ahuja and Aditi Randev from Niamh Ventures, along with Negen Wealth’s BV Raman. This strategic partnership will help Burma Burma achieve its goals and expand its culinary portfolio.

Co-founder Ankit Gupta emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “We are building a brand that will lead the way for novel cuisine concepts in India and beyond. While Burmese cuisine remains our core offering, we are thrilled to be working on new projects that will expand our culinary portfolio.”
