Capitol Chaos: Arrest Made After Man Attempts to Kill Treasury Secretary
A shocking incident unfolded at the U.S. Capitol on Monday, as a Massachusetts man was taken into custody after attempting to kill Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Ryan Michael “Reily” English, 30, turned himself in to authorities, revealing a sinister plot to harm top government officials.

Initially, English had set his sights on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and House Speaker Mike Johnson, but a visit to a Maryland library changed his plans. After learning about Bessent’s nomination, English shifted his focus to the Treasury Secretary.

English was found carrying two Molotov cocktails, a folding knife, and a lighter. He confessed to police that he intended to throw the incendiary devices at Bessent’s feet and stab him if possible. A search of his vehicle revealed more Molotov cocktails and a 750-milliliter bottle of vodka.

A receipt in English’s pocket contained a handwritten note, expressing remorse and desperation. The message, addressed to “Judith,” spoke of feeling trapped and helpless, with references to Nazis and a desire for revenge.

He wore disguises to conceal his identity while purchasing the atlas and surveilled the Capitol grounds, planning to kill at least three police officers to reach Bessent.

English faces charges of unlawful receipt, possession, or transfer of a firearm, as well as carrying a firearm, explosive, or incendiary device on Capitol grounds.
