Auto Industry Sees Resurgence in US Sales
GM and Ford Report Best Annual Sales Since 2019
The US auto industry is experiencing a significant upswing, with General Motors and Ford Motor reporting their highest annual new vehicle sales since 2019. This marks a notable recovery from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and supply chain issues that plagued the industry in recent years.
GM Leads the Charge
General Motors reported sales of over 2.7 million vehicles in 2024, a 4.3% increase from the previous year. This brings the automaker’s sales closer to its 2019 figure of 2.9 million units. According to Rory Harvey, GM president of global markets, the driving force behind this growth is the company’s focus on designing and manufacturing high-performance vehicles that meet customer demands.
Ford Follows Suit
Ford Motor also reported impressive sales figures, with 2.08 million vehicles sold in 2024. This represents a significant increase from the 2 million units sold in 2023. In the fourth quarter alone, Ford saw an 8.8% year-over-year increase in sales, with 530,660 vehicles sold.
Electrified Vehicles Gain Traction
Ford’s sales data reveals a notable shift towards electrified vehicles, with a 38.3% year-over-year increase in sales. Electrified vehicles, including hybrids and EVs, now account for 13.7% of Ford’s total annual sales. This trend is expected to continue as consumers become increasingly environmentally conscious and demand for sustainable transportation options grows.
Industry Outlook
