AT&T Pledges Reliability: New Initiative to Regain Customer Trust

Reliability Matters: AT&T Unveils New Initiative to Win Back Customer Trust

In a bid to regain customer confidence, U.S. telecom giant AT&T has announced a groundbreaking initiative to offer bill credits for network outages. This move comes on the heels of several significant disruptions in 2024, which left millions of customers frustrated and concerned about the reliability of critical communication infrastructure.

A Year of Disruptions

February 2024 saw AT&T face a nationwide wireless service disruption that lasted over 12 hours, blocking a staggering 92 million calls and preventing 25,000 attempts to contact the 911 emergency call line. In response, the company credited customers with a full day of service. However, rival telecom companies, such as T-Mobile and Verizon, also experienced service disruptions, sparking widespread frustration among customers.

Introducing AT&T Guarantee

Under the new initiative, AT&T Guarantee, fiber users who experience outages of 20 minutes or more, and wireless customers who face disruptions of 60 minutes or more, will automatically receive a bill credit equivalent to a full day of service. This guarantee is AT&T’s promise to “make it right” for customers should the company fail to deliver on its promise of dependable connectivity.

A Journey of Self-Reflection

According to Jenifer Robertson, executive vice president and GM, AT&T Mass Markets & Mobility, the company realized it had lost customer trust four years ago. “We knew we had to respond with strategies such as pricing, product improvements, and promotional offers to return the company to growth,” Robertson said. The company has invested over $140 billion in its network and almost a billion dollars in customer care and operations since 2019.

A History of Excellence

Interestingly, AT&T had topped the customer satisfaction rankings for business wireless service among large enterprises for three consecutive years until 2023, according to a survey by consulting firm J.D. Power. The company is now committed to regaining its position as a leader in customer satisfaction.

A New Era of Reliability

The AT&T Guarantee initiative, which goes live on Thursday, marks a significant shift in the company’s approach to customer service. By putting reliability at the forefront, AT&T aims to win back customer trust and provide a seamless communication experience.
