“South China Sea Gas Field Launch Boosts Regional Energy Supply”

Boosting Energy Supply: CNOOC Launches Dongfang 29-1 Gas Field Development

South China Sea Project Set to Enhance Regional Energy Output

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has successfully initiated production at the Dongfang 29-1 gas field development project, located in the Yinggehai basin of the South China Sea. As the sole owner and operator of the project, CNOOC aims to significantly bolster China’s energy supply.

Optimised Platform Design and Efficient Operations

The Dongfang 29-1 field features a cutting-edge, unmanned wellhead platform and a submarine pipeline, with six development wells slated for commissioning. By adopting a standardised and integrated approach, the platform’s equipment layout has been optimised to reduce project investment while maximising space efficiency.

Peak Production Expected This Year

The produced oil and gas will be transported to the existing Dongfang gas fields’ facilities via the submarine pipeline for processing. The Dongfang 29-1 field is projected to reach a peak production of 38 million cubic feet of natural gas per day this year, making a substantial contribution to the region’s energy supply.

Exploring Resource Potential in the Yinggehai-Qiongdongnan Basin

In recent years, CNOOC has been actively exploring the resource potential of the Yinggehai-Qiongdongnan basin, leveraging existing production facilities to minimise development costs of new projects. The Dongfang 29-1 project is a testament to this strategy, set to enhance the output capacity of the Dongfang gas fields.

Strengthening Regional Energy Supply

The offshore gas fields located near Hainan Island are expected to continue providing a clean, reliable, and stable energy supply for the region. This development comes on the heels of CNOOC’s recent launch of the Jinzhou 23-2 oil field development project, which is expected to achieve a projected peak output of 17,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2027, further strengthening the energy supply in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
