Frosty Reception in Davos: Benioff Takes Aim at Microsoft’s AI Ambitions
The chill in the air at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, didn’t deter Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff from firing a salvo at Microsoft’s artificial intelligence efforts. Benioff minced no words, calling Microsoft’s Copilot a “repackaged ChatGPT” that has disappointed the world.
A War of Words
This verbal jab comes on the heels of a subtle dig by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who questioned the relevance of business applications in the era of AI agents. Nadella’s remarks sparked a heated debate about the future of workplace software.
AI Bots Go Head-to-Head
At the center of this battle is the supremacy of AI-powered business tools. Salesforce’s autonomous bots, capable of answering customer queries and describing products, are pitted against Microsoft’s Copilot. The stakes are high, with Salesforce closing 200 Agentforce deals in the third quarter, including big-name clients like FedEx, IBM, and Accenture.
Strong Demand for Agentforce
Benioff revealed that consumption of Agentforce has been strong, with the company getting paid $2 per conversation. This bodes well for Salesforce’s bottom line, as the company looks to monetize its AI solutions. The market seems to agree, with Salesforce’s stock surging over 25% since the introduction of new Agentforce solutions.
Skeptics Emerge
However, not everyone is convinced. Guggenheim analyst John DiFucci downgraded his rating to Sell, citing concerns that Salesforce may struggle to monetize Agentforce without acquiring assets that have been doing what Agentforce aspires to do. DiFucci’s skepticism is a rare dissenting voice among analysts, with only one other rating Salesforce a Sell out of 51.
The Battle for Workplace Supremacy
As the AI landscape continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the battle for workplace supremacy is heating up. With Microsoft and Salesforce going toe-to-toe, the stakes are high. Who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell.
