Former soccer sensation David Beckham credits his parents for instilling in him the simple yet powerful values that have shaped his life and philanthropic work. As a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2005, Beckham has dedicated himself to protecting vulnerable children worldwide.
A Legacy of Respect
In a recent conversation, Beckham shared how his parents taught him to treat everyone with respect and kindness, values he has passed on to his four children. “I think they instilled in me the right values, and it’s the simple values of treating everyone the same and showing respect to people,” he said. Beckham’s children, ranging in age from 13 to 25, have grown up with these principles, which include basic courtesies like letting women walk through doors first and shaking hands.
Raising the Next Generation
Beckham believes that his children’s upbringing has inspired his work with UNICEF. He has taken some of them on trips to witness firsthand the organization’s efforts, showing them the impact of poverty, violence, and discrimination on children worldwide. “They all want to get involved in the UNICEF work that I do. They all want to help in different ways and different charities,” he said.
Empowering Girls
During his awards ceremony speech, Beckham emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for girls. “I want my daughter Harper to have the same opportunities as her brothers, and that should be the case for all girls everywhere. Being a girl shouldn’t determine what you can do, where you can go, and who you can become,” he declared.
A Life of Purpose
Beckham’s conversation also touched on his remarkable soccer career, his role as president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF, and his thoughts on social media. Through it all, his commitment to making a positive difference in the world remains unwavering.
